Excerpts from Virgil’s IV Eclogue (Bucolics)

Xrismos (greek for Oracle) is the project for a pavilion with the poetic function of oracular listening.
On the one hand, the oracle of the Cumaean Sibyl cited by Virgil in the fourth of the Bucolics poem serves as a content; on the other hand, the echo of the futuristic architectural experiments of Gustav Klutsis’s Radio Orators pavilions serve as an image of tension and a repeater device for the times to come.
Intuition and listening produce strange encounters, unexpected connections. The futuristic-primitive aspect of Xrismos connects opposing times and mends them.
History returns to itself, and the need to communicate reconstructs time and space.
Virgil’s poetry is considered oracular in its correspondence with our contemporary sensibility, from the appreciation of weeds and forests to the criticism of plowing the land, which has become relevant after new scientific understanding.
The insights of Masanobu Fukuoka, Gilles Clément, and the new ecology movement open up the possibility of a primitive future, thus allowing us to reflect on the visionary and provocative power of poetic intuition.
Xrismos is a soft architecture, an observation point poised between having landed like a displacing UFO and being blown away by the wind as a kite.
Xrismos Pavilion was installed in a semi-abandoned agricultural field, precisely to highlight what Virgilio called “ancient wickedness, which is often before our eyes, as well as the eyes of those who refuse to understand, falling into overly rigid beliefs that hinder access to a new “golden age” with the affirmation of an evolved, clearer thought.
